Bakuriani, Georgia – host of 2023 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championship

There’s nothing better than getting to the top of a ski lift, breathing in the cold, pure air and gazing across the snowy peaks, realising that you are about to ski down the side of the mighty mountain.

Here in Georgia, we are lucky enough to have some of the most impressive and highest mountains in Europe, with many peaks in the Caucasus Mountain Range higher than Mont Blanc. Skiing is highly modernised and impressive; Ongoing upgrades and investments have set our traditional resorts of Gudauri and Bakuriani up to international standards, while our brand new resorts, Goderdzi and Mestia, will be one of the most advanced resorts in the world. The latest runs are open yearly, but if skiing on piste isn’t enough for you, we are one of the few countries in the world that offers Heli-skiing. The opportunities to Heli-ski in Georgia are virtually limitless and are probably the most exhilarating activity an advanced skier can experience anywhere in the world.

Georgia, the south Caucasian country, is situated at the strategically significant crossroads where Europe meets Asia. Georgia is a land of high adventure, an ancient culture, new challenges, fantastic food, winemaking tradition & hospitality.

But the greatest asset of Georgia is still its snow-capped mountains. Spanning 1,200 kilometres, the Caucasus Mountains cover approximately 60% of the country’s surface area.

MTA Mountain Trails Agency manages and develops the following ski resorts in Georgia: Gudauri, Bakuriani, Mestia, and Goderdzi. You can enjoy skiing and snowboarding in these breathtaking mountains from December to April. Georgia’s ski areas are easily accessed with a modern contactless ticket system, SKIDATA, letting you experience all Georgian ski resorts with one ski pass.

In May 2018, at the 51st Ski Congress of the International Ski Federation at the resort of Costa Navarino in Greece, it was officially announced that Georgia will host the 2023 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championship. The championship will be held in Bakuriani in 2023 under the auspices of FIS. It should be noted that Georgia is one of the 14 countries that won the right to host the Freestyle Championship. This success results from the joint efforts and tireless work of the Government of Georgia, the Georgian Ski Federation and the MTA Mountain Trails Agency. Until 2023, the Georgian side is obliged to host the World and European test events of all (FIS) Freestyle disciplines.

Hosting World Championships in Bakuriani is one of the most important events and achievements for our country, which contributes not only to the economic development of these resorts but also to the refinement of winter sports, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the development of tourism and infrastructure.

Make Georgia your winter adventure destination and explore the way to unexperienced emotions.
