Xavier Poynton

Xavier Poynton, a young and passionate ski racer based in North Wales, started skiing aged 4 joining North Wales Snowsports Club, and then quickly gaining a place on their race team: the North Wales Flyers.

Just two years later, age 6, Xavier was starting to pick up his first national titles: starting with Welsh School’s champion, and has since added to the collection British Schoolboys Indoor Champion, Welsh and English Outdoor Champion, as well as Welsh Alpine Slalom and Giant Slalom Champion.

With his ambitions to race on both the World Cup Circuit and at the 2030 Olympics, Xavier secured a place as the youngest ever athlete to be selected for the Ambition Race Team in 2007, and now spends his time juggling school work and training with the Ambition team at their base in Leogang, Austria.

Xavier lives for all things snow and adventure and is an ambassador for Zip World.  Progress, however has not always been smooth. In Feburary 2020 xav was hit whilst training in Austria and fractured his femur, resulting in two surgeries and a legnthy rehab, during the final stages of his rehab he raised approx £3500 for the Ellie Soutter Foundation by running 120K in May with many memebers of the community. He got back to training in Austria, and had a freak accident which left him with a fracture fib & tib, again this redulted in 2 further surgeries and an even longer rehab. He was completely undeterred, again ran for the Ellie Soutter Foundation and raised a futher approx £3000. He stepped back onto the mountain in October 2022 and within 6 months he has beaten nearly 100 other racers (many Europe based), to become the British & English Slalom Alpine Champion.
